  • My courses are suitable for everyone.  But why?

Mixed ability classes are dynamic and offer increased learning opportunities.
Beginners are inspired by working alongside more experienced learners.
Experienced learners build self confidence by sharing their knowledge and skills.

Streamed classes can put a ‘glass ceiling’ on your learning and limit your progression.
Adult learners bring a life time of skills and experience to the class.  This can’t be streamed.
I believe in leaving the opportunity open for unexpected leaps of learning and creativity that can propel students beyond the narrow definitions of ‘beginner, intermediate or advanced’.

This is why – We draw. We learn.  Have fun – together.

Course structure

You will discover a new rich textural language that when used in your drawing and paintings bring a rich tactile quality that makes your work infinitely more interesting and engaging.  You will learn how to create relief tactile surfaces using acrylic paints and mediums alongside other techniques.  All techniques are demonstrated before you have a chance to try it out.  By the end of the 2-days you will leave with a wealth of ideas and techniques that may very well change the way you work in the future.

Click the blue Materials to bring tab

Day 1
The morning is spent exploring and experimenting with different consistencies of acrylic paint learning how it behaves when painted over a variety of surfaces.  You will learn how to create textures using a variety of application methods using emulsion, glues, gesso, collage and ways of layering your mixed media that will result in stunning looking textures.  The afternoon is spent using your new skills in creating your own abstract textured art work on paper, using one of my paintings as inspiration..

Day 2
The morning continues with new texture demonstrations and more chance for you to experiment and learn. Today we will use cardboard, moulds, and print methods to create more stunning textures.  The afternoon is spent using your new set of skills to create another abstract textured art work on paper, using one of my paintings as inspiration.

    Dear Brian,

I am really glad to have found your website, as I would really like to begin to paint.

I have never been very arty (although I write professionally), but I feel like I would really like to develop some representational skills and particularly work with colour.

I am 100% beginner. but can it do the ‘Begin to draw and paint’ session, so thought I could try the ‘painting with texture’ class. Do you think this would be appropriate?

The other thing is that I have M.E., which makes my health quite unreliable and inconsistent. So there would be a danger that I would book and be unable to attend. Is there any way around this? For example, booking and paying and deferring the course last minute if I was unable to make it. I know places are limited, so this is a complicated ask.

I really look forward of hearing from you.

    Best,
    Kate

      Hi Kate
Great to hear from you – welcome on board! All my courses are suitable for beginners to experienced artists so you can start with any course that intrigues you. Obviously the Begin to draw and paint is specifically for beginners, but as you can’t make that date – don’t worry. The Paint with textures is a really fun and experimental course and will teach you loads of ideas and techniques you can use when painting. I’ll email you with more details. Regards Brian

      Hi
Sorry you won’t be able to make the social – but I look forward to seeing you next year on the paint with texture course.
      Best regards
      Brian
