Abstract Art – Oct 2022

“A refreshing and laid-back weekend which has been inspiring. Gave me the tools and ideas to go and put them into practice.”

Anastasija J

I teach this course just twice a year so look forward to getting absorbed into abstraction with a new group of students. The group was amazing and explored the creative challenges with relish allowing themselves out of their comfort zone which is where real learning can take place. A refreshing and fun weekend for me, as well as the students, I think.

Student Comments

Fantastic overview of abstract art – providing context, foundations and techniques to apply. I feel like I now have several ways in to making abstract artworks. [I have learnt] composition, application, mark making techniques and references.”

“Exciting, stimulating, welcoming. A great learning experience. [I have learnt a] better understanding of materials, structure of painting, rules/guides to help develop a picture/painting. [My course highlights were] getting messy, experimenting without judgement, having use of an easel. Met all my expectations and needs.”

“Two days of structured learning delivered with a light touch and clear progression. [I have learnt] how to think about the Elements and issues around abstraction and making non representational images. [My course highlight was] the logical progression. The confidence building. The great group discussions. Grasping what abstract art might mean for me – in just two days. I really did make personal progress.”
