The materials day was exactly what I was after and I feel inspired and armed with knowledge to keep my experimentation and exploring going outside of the course.”
It was great to be back in the studio after the Easter holidays with a full studio of students looking to get the foundations to drawing and painting. This course is always a fabulous fast-paced weekend of tasty bite-size chunks of experiential learning. Both on the technical drawing side of making art and on the fun materials side of art making.

“Good fun. Learned a lot.”
“Every aspect of art, I felt I learnt today, great teacher. [I have learnt about] use of two types of charcoal, pencil drawing, acrylics, watercolours. Pastel drawing. Everything enjoyable – now to choose the next course. Thank you.”
“Super friendly, informative and expansive course. Lovely and knowledgeable tutor who creates a calm and supportive atmosphere. Really enjoyed the course – great value for money. [I have larnt] loads about how to use materials which is really inspiring. [The highlights were using] charcoal, pastel, paint – materials, getting to play and experiment. The materials day was exactly what I was after and I feel inspired and armed with knowledge to keep my experimentation and exploring going outside of the course.”
“This is a fantastic course for a beginner or for someone who wants to go back to basics. I have learnt how to approach pencil drawing with more confidence, focussing on specific processes. Second day I learnt how to approach other materials with equal confidence. This course exceeded my expectations because I learnt so many new skills and definite processes. Brian creates an environment in which there is no failure, only experimentation. I never felt that there was any sense of negative comparison within the room.”
“Amazing weekend. Time flew by but was impressed by how much we got covered.[My course highlight was that] I thought I hated watercolour, but I’ve loved it. Exceeded expectations, had a great time.”
“Helpful step-by-step guide providing an anchor to develop from. Good pace and structure – demonstrations/instruction then having a go and trying a range of techniques. Brian is an excellent teacher. Useful to have techniques and a plan. [I have learnt that its] important to have fun, take a risk and enjoy the journey. Loved all of it – very encouraged to experiment. Exceeded my expectations! Brilliant was easy to forget the stress of home life.”
