Imagined Landscapes Paintings
The Imagined Landscapes series of acrylic and mixed-media paintings is inspired by my walks and travels through the hills, mountains, and valleys of the UK.
I focus on the physical qualities of paint and materials to build layered surfaces that reflect my experiences of the rich geography of these landscapes. Each layer is created through a process of applying and removing materials, using both painting and drawing techniques, to capture my memories of being in these evocative environments.
Visual Voices Collage
The Visual Voices series of abstract mixed-media collages is inspired by the landscapes that surround me — urban and suburban settings, the countryside, and the often-overlooked spaces in between.
The landscapes of the UK are rich with voices. Most of the places I encounter bear the marks of human presence, and it is these voices that I seek to interpret through in the Visual Voices series. They speak in many tones – historic and contemporary, evocative and fleeting, sometimes a soft whisper, other times intrusive or as lingering remnants.
I use the language of shape, texture, pattern, colour, line, and marks to express the multi-layered moods, emotions, and atmospheres of these diverse voices I experience within our landscapes.
