Last weekend I enjoyed a fantastic weekend with a full studio radiating energy, enthusiasm and creativity. We began by exploring mark-making and delving deeper into the artistic mark-making process. Creativity, playfulness and the willingness to play were the essential ingredients this weekend.
It was heartwarming that 2 students traveled from Glasgow to attend my courses. I firmly believe that my courses are well worthwhile travelling cross country for! And I think they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They stayed in an ‘air B&B’ in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and had a good time trying out all the different restaurants – and found a wonderful place for an early morning Sunday breakfast!!
Finlay commented that he enjoyed a “friendly, thought provoking, something different” kind of experience over the weekend. He felt he had learnt how to “look for satisfying and enjoyable techniques and replicate and continually improve on these” while working to create enriched textural surfaces of mark-making. We looked at lots of different artists to gain a deeper understanding of their processes and see what we could learn from them and adapt into our own processes and techniques.
