Charcoal drawing
£73.00
Saturday workshop 1-day
Workshop Structure
Improve the use of tone, shading and blending with charcoal by using both putty and plastic erasers. Develop the use of creative line and mark-making to add depth and self-expression. Perfect for all students who wish to learn the expressive qualities of working with monochrome tones and learn the differences between drawing with Willow and Compressed charcoals.
Freedom of Willow charcoal
Willow charcoal is easy to apply and remove from the paper, allowing greater flexibility and freedom of expression, as mistakes are easy to change. Students will work on a project that allows them to explore the freedom and flexibility of willow charcoal and discover how willow charcoal allows fabulous control to develop a wide range of tones and expressive line.
Power of compressed charcoal
Unleashing the expressive power of drawing with compressed charcoal demands working at a large scale. Students will be asked to fully explore quality of line and mark-making, with a focus on composition and use of tone to add drama and expression to their drawings. The depth of tone achievable with compressed charcoal allows images of high drama with extremes of light and dark.
By the end of the course…
Students will go home feeling empowered by the creative opportunities of working in monochrome tones with new skills and techniques to make the most of willow and compressed charcoal.
